Mazda RX-2/RX-3 Clymer Manual Chapter 9 transmission
The United Stales to 4-speed manual transmission or a 3-speed automatic offered in the RX-2, RX-3. This chapter contains procedures for the removal and repair of the manual transmission to automatic testing and adjustment. Technical data are given in table 1 (at the end of the chapter).
MANUAL TRANSMISSION
Manual transmission consists of a switch housing, gearbox and rear extension. Figure 1 (next page) shows the case and the rear extension. Figure 2 (page 155) shows the transfer mechanism.
Removal/installation
1. disconnect the battery ground wire
2. referring to figure 2, remove the dust boot Exchange iever. Remove the seizure to the bolts. Lift up the cover plate, and shift lever.
3. remove the trigger (Figure 7).
4. disconnect the wires from the back of the light and neutral switch (1-8, Figure 1).
5. remove the drain plug (Figure 3). Let the transmission oil drain, clean the plug and install it again
6. disconnect the speedometer cable from the left edge of the extension. Pull the cable.
7. remove the clutch release cylinder. S chapter eight.
8. remove the exhaust manifold (Chapter 5).
9. disconnect the drive shaft of the differential, push it to the Tearward out of the transmission.
Note: the supply of oil will run out, if Sent back, not dried out.
10. place the jack under the transmission, and a block of wood to support it,
11. referring to figure 4 (page 156), remove the 2 nuts for attaching the transmission mounting member in the car. Remove the 2 nuts, attach the rubber insulation installation, Member
