1989 Volkswagen Golf I/a system component tests

Before testing in a separate part, or the system, it is highly recommended that you perform all of the procedures listed in article F-BASIC testing. Because many computer and monitored components change the voltage and the resistance of the valves if they malfunction, it is also recommended to the connector pin out of the diagnosis is made.
Note: the individual components of the testing is not to isolate the possible shorts or open the electronically controlled systems in the control harness. Isolate shorts or open the harness to the ohmmeter. All the tension of the tests should be carried out with a digital Volt ohmmeter (DVOM) with at least 10 megaohm input impedance of various testing methods unless otherwise specified.

ENGINE sensors & switches air flow sensor (cabriolet & Fox)
1) to start the motor to pressurized fuel in the system. Shut off the engine and remove the intake boot onto the air flow sensor. Disconnect the coil secondary wire coil and jumping to the ground.
2) check sensor plays in the slow-moving drive through a range of magnet. Resistance should be felt. Move the disk back to the rest position. There should be no resistance. If the binding seemed to loosen the hold down bolt and adjust the sensor to the disk drive in the middle of the venturi.
3) if the resistance is odd, then remove the air flow sensor housing must be cleaned and greased the Lever Assembly. If the opposition is due to the control of the piston, remove and clean the control piston Assembly. If the binding persists, replace the fuel distributor.
4) to check the status of the air flow sensor plate. Air flow sensor from the edge of the disc must be. 075.2? (1.9 mm) below the narrowest part of the throat. See Figure 1. If not, bend the sensor in the spring until the correct specification. Ensure that the small difference between the sensor and the control lever on the piston.
